Guidelines
Folks are asking a lot of questions, so I thought I'd give you a general idea of the "policy" (such as it is) on my response to comments and Q/A.
- I'll answer comments given time; the volume is pretty large and this isn't my day job...
- I'll never break news here. I have previously worked on PR teams, and am well aware of how very hard those guys work to make sure information gets out in just the right way and at just the right time. It's a tough enough job without me making it tougher...
- I can't discuss unannounced features or product details. There are a number of good reasons for this, and anyone who's ever seen how messy the kitchen is right before the meal will understand the importance of this.
- I'm not going to pee on the competition. This one's fuzzy, but I've spent a bunch of the last three years digging deep into our competitors, and have a deep respect for them. Apple makes mistakes, we make them, our products all have flaws. But all sides have smart people working hard to build great products under tough circumstances. I do want to add value by discussing the facts about the industry, but will try to do it respectfully.
- I won't discuss legal issues. Period. CLM, you know?
I'll surely make up other rules as we go along, but I wanted to 'splain myself.

Hello there,
I'm Rob from Zuney.Net, Do you wish to trade links?
Sorry for posting here, I couldn't find a contact link. If your interested get in touch rob@zuney.net
Cheers,
Rob
Hey,
really, you want really say to me that you guys looking carefully and deep at your competitors, but still make such big mistakes...? lool
Good JOKE!
-What about DRM shit?
Do you really think you can win, if you follow the stupid and bad boys at the music industry?
Your feature of WiFi is shit, if you have only such a tiny limit!
Very crippled down!
3 days and 3 times playback, laugable!
(Persons who really want to buy this stuff, would it buy too, if you increase this limit to like an week (7 days and 3 times A DAY playback limit..)
-WiFi?! Yes, but what about the integrated WiFi-chip?
Do you have carefully select an company which produces really ultra-low-power wireless chips, which don't get the power off your battery too fast, as it is often with notebooks, PDAs, mobile phones/cellphones, etc.?!
I really hope it, for you :-P
(Like Nanoradios low power WiFi solution, receive mode 53mA, standby mode 0,05mA: Nanoradio Press news, or Conexant WiFi chips, here and here)
And what about wireless security/encryption? WPA/WPA2, 802.11i?
-What about more Music playback formats? (opensource, lossless, etc.!)
I bet you even don't support your own WMPhoto on Zune yet, haha.
-Offer two firmware images, one "normal" and one opensource, which every one can modify..
This would be really new and an revolution.
-What about battery life?
Rumors said about 12 hours music playback..WTF? LOL
Modern portable music/multimedia devices have at least 15 hours, if not more..
What about Apple?
The dimension of the Zune is about equal to the BIG 80GB iPod 5G.
Watch the music playback at this device and then at yours and only 30 GB HDD with almost same dimension..
That's not good.
-Why only FM, not DAB, DMB, etc.?
FM is no revolution at all, and nothing new, many other portable music devices have this feature already!
My SE K800i have FM RDS!
-Do you know Sandisk, do you know Sansa e200 series?
I don't think so, because if you really know your competition, why Zune doesn't have a simple expansion slot for memory cards? (SD, MMC)
And what about USB OTG 2.0?!
Now here are my other comments and posts, with details and my point of view for the Zune:
first one here
second one here
last one here
Conclusion: You have to improve Zune hardware and Zune firmware, or you won't compete and you won't have a change and can't win the game..!
Think about it.
best regards,
PSchuetz
Lots of passion, lots of ideas. fwiw, we have studied the competition deeply and are trying to make no mistakes; we'll make many I guarantee.
Actually, we should improve Zune hardware, firmware, service, and client software. We will.
Hi,
I really respect what you and Microsoft are doing. Thanks for trying to improve our digital experience, but more importantly, thanks for fueling my hatreds toward apple. ;)
I've added your site on my zune forums, www.Zuneboards.com (portal, to the left).
Good luck,
feel free to link back.
Regards, LPX
Now, now. Nobody should hate Apple. Some of my favorite people work there.
This should all be a friendly, but deadly serious, game.
David, thank you (or your team) for having the guts to make a brown product. I really like the look of it in the photos I have seen. Not everyone wants their gadgets to look super glossy and white. This is somewhere that you have really made a point of difference, and I hope it will resonate with your target market
The passion around the colors is amazing.
My Zune is brown, but brown doesn't really describe it. There's a green highlight to the double-shot plastic that's cool. It's my favorite of the colors.
both the white and black have similar dual color highlights. You'll have to hold one to really see what I mean.
I really look forward to seeing it in person, and perhaps doing a review of it (if my fellow editors dont get to it before me!).
I don't so much hate Apple, so much as I dislike the whole iPod fad, and the feeling I get in NYC that everyone is just so uninformed about their options.
Hopefully The Zune and whatever else is to come from M-soft will amend that.
