If Caruso could still sing, he'd become an Argonaut and listen to a Zune.
I should explain the pictures below....
Zune started out as a strategy project, about 4 code names ago. Microsoft pulled some topic experts from around the company into a small rented space near campus (unfurnished initially, as you see) to begin to map out a new digital entertainment strategy. I'm proud to have been one of the original 12 folks pulled in "on loan" from their respective parts of the company.
There have been a lot of ups and downs since then, but it's been an adventurous learning experience for me.

Those are some preatty cool pics...what was it like to work on the Zune initially? How did the idea to take the player in a Socially focused direction come up?
It was pretty natural, and came up very early. When you consider the amazing things going on in social computing, combined with the reception to the xbox 360 community features, and add the fact that Apple is basically missing this boat, you get a clear place where we can add clear, differentiated value.
I wouldn't say Apple is missing the boat. I'd say, right now, Apple IS the boat. And the ocean.
I like that Zune is compatible with Xbox360. Does that mean you'll be able to buy and download content to Zune without a PC desktop at all? That would be innovative, and something Apple is lacking.
Obviously the key here is to remove all of that crap and have the music store on the device. I'm sorely, sorely disappointed that you haven't got that in there for launch. I think YOU GUYS are missing the boat on that one. You could have wiped the smug grin off Apple's face if you'd put the extra resource in to make that happen.
Apple might still beat you to that one and surprise us all with a full "iPhone" concept. And Nokia have been busily working on getting ready to launch "music store on device", and I suspect you've already seen the demos of that.
