Zunester returns!
After a hiatus...my excuse? A combination of shipping Zune and Gears of War.
We're out on the market, availabile in lots of stores. The redmond/bellevue/seattle stores are all sold out; folks should post their experiences; are there lots of units in stores? Has everyone found one? Let me know here...

It's great to know that stores in your area are out of Zunes, how are you doing nationally, I like my Zune, but there seems to be a group of journalist who really don't want it to succeed.
Work on the DRM, make podcast support native to the Zune.
Crank up the Wi Fi so I can stream it to my Xbox 360.
And for God sakes, Open some type of Store to Market the Zune name.
That's the one major advantage that Apple has, The iPod expereince is so supperior at the Apple store that the Zune is starting out with a serious handicap, when I went to Best Buy to purchase my Zune, I couldn't even test it, they handn't bothered to charge the battery in the thing so that a potential buyer could try it out.
It's basiclly lost in the noise of a big box store on the same shelf with 10 plus other players.
Apple does it the right way, they get you to focus on their product in their store under the right settings, the ipods are nice and clean, and charged, there's an Apple employee close by, happy to answer any questions that you may have.
In contrast to Apple, when I asked about the Zune at Best Buy, none of the employees I spoke to even knew what the Zune was.
You guys have a serious up hill battle, which is a shame because the Zune is pretty good and deserves success.
I know that you guys are just on gen 1 of this whole thing, and I don't know how far you plan to take this, but you should really ponder some of the suggestions I've mentioned.

A few things:
- I bought a black one on launch day at noon (Denver, CO) and they had already sold 8 units.
- I returned my black Zune because due to a syncing issue lost all my preloaded content. I tried to exchange it for a new one but they were all sold out of black, though they did have brown and white left.
- I bought a new one at Target, and with the $25 gift card promo got it for cheaper. Checked out the Zune display there, was pretty cool except the lack of real Zune accessories. Looking forward to Belkin's Zune car kit.
- I switched the Zune display to play a video so it was more visually impressive. The display should have gone out with one of units turned sideways or the ability to turn it.
- While some critics have been vocal about the Zune, casting some negativity on it, I still think this is a good thing. I don't remember this much press over any other MP3 player that has come out since the iPod.
- The hardware has been great, the software still needs some work. There are still a handful of annoyances. I talk about a few of them on my blog.
- Great job on the preloaded content.
- Some kind of offical Zune forum would be great, either accessable via the Marketplace or the Zune.net site. If it's really about the social give us an offical forum to share playlists, music ideas, complaints, compliments, etc.
- Noticing a lot of Zune commercials lately, pretty cool.
- The worst bit of marketing was the "Free Your Inner DJ". Seriously, "Welcome to the Social" I can get behind but free your inner DJ is just a bit too cheesy.
- All in all pretty decent, I'm excited to see what else is coming down the pipeline.

Well I just bought a black one off ebay and im waiting for it to show up at my door step. Should be one of the first in Australia to have one :D
I wanted to pass along a suggestion. I think you guys should offer a Subscribe-To-Own model on your Zune Marketplace. That is: Any customer who signs up for a monthly Zune Pass (~$15 / month) would not only get access to the entire music library, but would at the end of each month get a number of songs that they own outright (for instance, 15 songs). The customer would get to choose which songs.
This model would differentiate the Zune “service” from others and, I believe, people would really respond. As a Zune Pass customer, you would not only have access to the entire library (which is extremely appealing and a great way to discover music), but you would also own something as you went along. There isn’t a sense of ownership with the subscription service offered currently. And, the individual song purchases don’t let you truly explore and discover music the way a subscription can. Blending the two would be pretty appealing.
Finally, isn’t there a scenario where two Zunes, both having active Zune Passes, can share music wirelessly without the 3 x 3 limitation? I hope in the future.
I love my zune and have been able to copy all my AAC files from itunes to the zune, so no you don't have to rebuy your library. I will say that I am still adicted to the ipods scroll wheel and pick up my old 4G ipod regulary. Please Apple license this to zune.
