David,
Can you give us any insights into what is fixed or enhanced in the firmware 1.2 update?
Beyond, that is, the generic reference to stability and performance.

David, could you do a instructional blog on how best to share content with family members at home. I have been struggling with this. Here is my scenario:
i) My wife has Zune software installed on her laptop and purchases individually the music she likes
ii) My son has Zune portable & software installed on his computer and we set him up with a subscription to listen to all the music he wants
iii) I have Zune portable & software installed on my laptop and have ripped all my old music
Questions:
1. What is the best way to browse and play each other content when we are home?
2. Is there a discovery mode that it will automatically see other Zune enabled computers on the network?
Thanks
anonymous, the Zune software has no network media sharing ability beyond Xbox 360 now. Sorry. However, WMP 11 can share Zune DRM content out via UPnP AV... and Vista's WMP 11 has a UPnP based client. That's "unsupported", but it works... well, as well as the somewhat slow UPnP AV implementation is. I can play Zune Marketplace content -- both protected and unprotected -- from any Roku SoundBridge, Windows Vista or (of course) Xbox 360 on the LAN. Pretty cool. The clients all "auto discover" via UPnP AV.
For your "unprotected" music, those files could just be available via a file share to anyone. But that's not automagic.
We can hope the Zune Software gets some PC to PC capability later... hopefully far more robust than Vista WMP 11: Something as fast & robust as the Xbox 360 UPnP media client!
I don't know who posted the previous comment but I would like to ask them. Does the Vista WMP11 UPNP AV Client interface look similiar to the inteface in Zune software (see album art, genre, look & feel, etc)? The thing that bothers me about XBox/Zune today, is that the XBox interface just operates/looks different. I want a unified/familiar experience across the entire ecosystem (Media Center, XBox, Zune Devices and Software, etc).
Vista's Windows Media Player 11 UPnP AV client acts similarly to how it does with local media. It just adds the remote servers on the left, next to the normal Library. Since the Zune interface is based on WMP 11, it's not that much of a change.
As above, I do agree WMP 11 is unoptimized for large remote UPnP libraries. Too bad. It's a little embarrassing since WMP 11 can handle 100K tracks amazingly well.
The Xbox 360 UPnP AV UI is plain and feature-less... but it does work quickly and effectively. (If you want a fancy UI on Xbox 360, you'll need to use it as a Media Center extender instead... at least for now.)
Cheers!
