David,

What are the exact product names for the new Zunes?

Is it Zune 80 or Zune 80GB.

Same thing with the flash Zune. Is it Zune 4 and 8 or Zune 4GB and Zune 8GB?

Thanks!

is there an actual date on this stuff? specifically, will first gen owners need to wait until the second gen comes out to get a firmware upgrade? what about software?

david.

a few quick questions.

zune 80gb pixel count. over/equal to that of the zune 30?

should i invest in parallels or do i have a chance at seeing a macpatible zuneware?

i also made this comment in a gizmodo post, but i think apple recent product line has left a gaping hole in which zune seems to be taking advantage of. that is, a large capacity, widescreen, wifi pmp.

lastly, I know this isnt necessarily a new feature, but i am looking forward to streaming to my 360. my questions is will there be any more zune/360 features? it only seems natural. what with the fall update coming up and what not.

I hope the next-gen Zune will offer gapless playback for MP3 and WMA content, like iPod has been able to do for 2 generations.

So far, the updated products look great, David. Good work!

I gotta say, you guys have blown me away. Consider yourself let off the hook for the past few months of dead air.

Here's hoping you come back full swing, at least for the next 6 months (after which you have to go off the grid again).

Awesome David!

The one major thing I'm not understanding is what are the major reasons to get a gen2 Zune over a gen1 since they're getting a firmware update and thus almost identical?

The only things I've heard are ZunePad and 0.2" bigger screen.

Brian,

Well, let's see... reasons you may want to get a Zune 80: Smaller size/thinner, improved battery life, 50GB more storage, MPEG-4/H.264 support & 640 x 480 external video output capability (instead of 320 x 240)?

Anyway, I'm guessing the new Zunes are more about getting new Zune buyers!

Brian,

if you're happy with your Gen1 and a firmware update, then that's great. Enjoy.

That said, I think you'll see the new Zune 80 and/or 4/8, and want to get one. the Sizes and design are really great. That, plus Zunepad...

I guess I should have said, I _am_ a new Zune buyer. :-) I'm just wondering if there were any major differences or if it was an even playing field for me to choose from.

I'll definitely be paying attention to the improved battery life and such. Perhaps I'll just hold onto my iPod for just one more year and wait until the gen3 Zune's come around. I'll decide more in November!

Thanks David!

What are the physical sizes of these new models? There's no actual data on this anywhere.

Dimensions of Zune 80GB: 4.26 x 2.41 x 0.51; Weight: 4.5oz

Note that the 3.2 inch screen is 14% larger than Zune 30GB’s 3.0 inch screen, while Zune 80GB is 27% smaller than Zune 30GB.

Dimensions of Zune 4GB and Zune 8GB: 3.6 x 1.62 x 0.33; Weight: 1.7oz

Dimensions of (original) Zune 30GB: 4.43 x 2.47 x 0.65; Weight: 5.6oz

will music videos be part of the zune pass?

At 7:46 PM, Adam said...

Felix: No, they're available to purchase separately (says ZuneInsider's Cesar Menendez). I'm wondering if we're allowed to play the music videos from within the Zune software, as URGE did (in-line links to the music videos next to the song names), I thought that was the best implementation I've seen.
