Media I'm Consuming
I will put a Zunetag on this site when they go external, so you'll be able to see what I'm listening to. But for now, here's my painfully created manual list:
- Podcasts: Lots of NPR, Lots of Network News TV, TWiT, Windows Weekly,
- Lots of Queen. Every now and then I rediscover them, and go on a 24 hour jag.
- Lots of WWII era stuff. Ken Burns made me do it.
- Franz Ferdinand on a recommendation. Trying it out.
- John Mellencamp. I'm from Bloomington, Indiana, ok?
- Kevin Gilbert
- The Killers. Trying them out on a recommdnation
- The Rolling stones. "What the heck, let's download their entire catalog and try them out".
- TV: A new season! Heroes, My Name is Earl, 30 Rock, Survivorman. Ken Burns' The War.
There can be no doubt. I'm not as cool as the guys in Marketing.

Is there a set date when the tags go up? Or are they just going to be launched in tandem with the Zune 2 Release?
no In Rainbows?! what?
So, will you have the ability to 'right-click' on a media file and flag it as 'do not show on card becuase it is embarassing'.
Will the card have the ability to leave a comment next to items. How about pasting a static example?

Hi David,
I was wondering if you could provide us a little history on how the new Zune came about. When did you start conceptualizing it? Were there long debates on specs? Any surprise customer feedback with v1 Zune which you all felt needed to address in v2? Did J.Allard with his new role alter any of your previous work, vision or roadmap? Did you guys debate wether or not to deliver a Spring update or was it pretty much understood that you would have to forgo it to deliver v2 on time? How many prototypes did you go through before settling on Zune 4/8 and Zune 80?
Yeah, I'd really be interested to hear the answers to johncz's questions. Maybe you guys can release a retrospective in 5 years telling us why brown was dropped in favor of green... I'm hurt, David, truly hurt (the brown would've made an amazing matte color, and also I'm going to miss the doubleshots)
Hey,
I was wondering if you or anyone here might give me some advise about my Zune which I just purchased. I have been searching all over the internet for someone that would assist me. I was unsuccessful at Zune Tech support. Thanks, Alice
Alice: I'm sure we'd all be willing to help. What's the issue?
(If you want, it might be easier to e-mail me at Adam@ZuneThoughts.com)
Adam,
Thanks so much for the offer, think I have it answered, but if you want to shade more light, all light is welcome.
Thoughts Media Forums > ZUNE THOUGHTS > Zune Talk > Sync Media Player with Zune? Thank, Alice
Alice: I'm glad Jason was able to help. I'm sorry you had the problem, and I hope you've found it resolved to your liking.
Krebsa yes I did find the answers I needed and "to my liking" for sure.
Now I am on to another question. I understand that Zune is presenting new things mid Novemeber for their site including video downloading. I am ready to get DVD's downloaded and/or get movies from "someplace" for my Zune. I have spent a few days reading, looking, and trying to learn but I am just confused. It appears that iZuneAccess might be the ticket for what (all) is needed but than I am wondering if I should wait until mid November. But again there is this Windows Encoder that I might just use for free. What, what, what does one need to watch movies on their Zune? I can not be the only novice out here confused as to converters, encoders, etc. Thanks!!!!!!!!
Alice: iZuneAccess and similar sites are almost always scams. They don't get the publisher's permission, so in many cases they're also illegal.
You're much better off getting a "Zune Pass", which you can access from within the software, to download unlimited songs. Either that, or an independent music retailer like eMusic, and now even iTunes' "iTunes Plus" tracks.
Movies, on the other hand, aren't yet sold through the Marketplace. In the meantime, you can copy your own DVDs to your Zune.

DA!!!! One needs to have a DVD drive before they can download movies..............sorry! Thanks
Just curious if I could use anyone here as an interview for an article I'm writing regarding the new zune release on November 13th.
Any input would be great!!

Thanks!!
OK, not sure if this is the right spot to post this, I'm just tacking it on to the latest article on the site.
I scored a refurb Zune from woot for $80 and must say I'm pretty impressed with it so far: nice and simple no frills GUI, decent performance, good sound quality. The battery life doth suck, though.
However, it seems for a player with its processing power and WiFi there are so many missed opportunities. Given on-board WiFi, to me the number one no-brainer feature should be a UPnP client, especially since MS is all over UPnP in most other products (well, OK, the XBOX). Being able to stream music and video from the home media server would be awesome, since even with a 30GB drive it's not going to be holding my entire media collecion.
Kicking it up a notch into totally cool territory would be an on-board UPnP server. This would put a whole new spin on the Zune social and sharing thing, allowing any Zune to stream its media to nearby clients (Zunes or any other UPnP clients). This would also bypass the whole 3/3 ugliness, since the clients only receive streams while the source is present, and no actual media is copied to others.
One final killer feature would be an open widget architecture that allows third parties to develop custom apps for the Zune, perhaps even using the Sideshow technology. There will always be itches out there that MS couldn't be bothered to scratch, but that someone with too much time on their hands could develop a custom widget for.
That's all, thanks for listening.
