Holy shit, I didn’t even realise! where are you, the US? I’m not sure about how the finance is dealt with over there, I’m studying in the UK and I know for sure it’s gotten really shitty over here for new students, I managed to get in to uni the final year before the fees were raised. But I’d suggest if you can take out a loan you go for it. If not there may be other ways for you to get into the industry, practise art or coding and keep trying for work experience I’m sure you’ll find a way in :)

wish i could afford it. that post was 2 years ago; now that i’ve graduated i realise how hard it’s gonna be to manage to get myself that kind of education.

I’m at uni doing games design now, I fully recomend it ;D

“Art of the game” has 4 features on the visual aspect of the game, 1 on the audio, and 0 on the writing process-which is probably the most important aspect of this series

    The fuck?

One thing that disappointed me about the level design, in comparison to the original, is that it didn’t reward “ceiling lookers.” Generally people tend to either be looking up or down more often, and in Bioshock 1 there were many Spider Splicer cache’s that got you rare ammunition and items very early on if you used telekinesis or other items just secretly stashed around

They didn’t do this in the main game of Bioshock 2, but at least fixed that for Minerva’s Den

i think they should make this game for ps2 it would be awesome :D

Just finished my first year, we had a games design principles module where we learned about narrative, interface, content design etc and built some basic card and board games, we had some animation and flash modules and art and writing modules, next year we have sound design and character/level design etc, it’s really fun. My course is about 50/50 with budding game artists and programmers but some courses focus more on programming or more on game art so its up to you to find the best balance :)

    UDK FTW

  • ZersiXs says:

well. in the editor its alot of modes. Wireframe, lightmode, Normal texture and so on. its fun to make maps ! :)

  • ustoledmysammich says:

Those wireframes hurt my eyes, building those from scratch feels like it’d be a living hell, I don’t know how he does it and enjoys it…

im 14 years old and i love video games. I created a game by using C# and it was text based. i know alot about video game graphics that when i talk to my friends about video games I have to explain to them every detail i know. C# is great for making games for PC, xbox, and zune.

I am in the games industry and I’m a year older than you. I have been studying level design since I was 7 so I have a few tips. Get used to dead lines my dead line is usually an hour for basic design then another hour for brush-up. Get used to a range of different tools from UDK to a 2D mario level editor. You’ll start off small in a indie team then work your way up you don’t jump into games like this. If you want some experience you can always work with me to create a game.

I want to become a level designer, i live in Norway and i’m 14 years old, and i can draw, but i’m not so creative so i need to look at something to draw it, also a level designer job isn’t to come up with a consept for the game is it? that’s the Game Design leader isn’t it? i REALLY want to work in a game industry, but i’m a little scared of things like getting pushed by the other guys in the company to hurry up with the level designs or something, do i get to learn EVERYTHING i can do?
